Privacy Policy

The short version
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your email address, the name you choose to show your partner, your games and favorites, your partner link and whether you have Premium.
- The free version shows ads from Google. They are not personalised, and Premium has none.
- We use no analytics or tracking tools of our own, and we do not sell your personal data.
- Your account, games and favorites are stored in data centres in Norway and Sweden.
- You can delete your account and everything connected to it at any time, from inside the app.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Name Game is a mobile app for iOS and Android that helps parents-to-be find a baby name. It is operated by Tornado K AS, based in Norway. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Tornado K AS. We are responsible for the personal data described here (in the words of the data protection law, we are the “data controller”).
If you have any questions about this policy or your data, email us at namegame@tornado-k.com.
2. What we collect
When you sign in
You sign in with Sign in with Apple or with your Google account. The sign-in itself is handled for us by a sign-in service from Microsoft. From it we receive an account ID (a code that identifies your account) and your email address. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email address, we receive the private address that Apple creates for you instead. We never receive your password.
The name your partner sees is one you choose in the app, and you can change it at any time under Profile. If the sign-in gives us a name, we use that until you change it.
Microsoft’s sign-in service keeps your email address and the link to your Apple or Google account, so that it can recognise you the next time. Like most online services, it also keeps a record of each sign-in for a short period, including the time and the IP address used.
What we store on our servers
- Your account: the account ID, your email address, the name you have chosen and when the account was created.
- Your favorites: the names you have saved.
- Your games: the settings you chose (such as gender and countries), the names in each game, the choices you made and the results.
- Your partner link: if you link with a partner, the connection between your two accounts, when it was made, and any invite code you have created.
- Your Premium status: whether Premium is unlocked for your account.
What is kept on your phone
- The sign-in information that keeps you logged in, kept in your phone’s own secure storage.
- A few settings, such as your last game settings and whether you have seen the introduction.
- In the free version, your answer to the question about ads (see section 5).
When you contact us
If you email us, we use your email address and what you write to answer you and to sort out what you ask about. Our mailbox is provided by Google.
When you visit this website
This website uses no cookies and no analytics tools. Like most websites, it keeps a technical record of visits: the IP address, the type of browser and the pages requested. We use it only to keep the site running and secure, and our copy is deleted automatically after 30 days.
The list of names
The baby names in the app come from a public collection of first names and how common they are in different countries. It holds first names only, and nothing about any individual person.
3. Why we use your data, and our legal basis
- To provide the service. We use your data to create your account, keep you signed in, save your games and favorites, run partner mode and unlock Premium. The legal basis is performance of a contract with you (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)): we need this data to provide the app you have asked to use.
- To keep the service secure and working. We keep technical records of what happens on our servers, which can include your account ID and IP address. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in protecting the service and the people who use it (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
- To answer you. When you contact us, we use what you send us to help you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in giving support (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
- To pay for the free version with ads. See section 5. Where the law requires it, ads are shown only with your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which you give or refuse in the form shown before the first ad.
We do not use your name, email address, favorites or game choices for advertising, and we use no analytics or tracking tools of our own.
4. Partner mode
If you choose to link with a partner, your linked partner can see:
- the name you have chosen,
- in the games you share: how far you have come, your winning name and how each name did for you,
- which favorites the two of you have in common (Matches),
- the names in your favorites, when either of you starts a shared game from favorites: that game uses both lists, and
- that Premium is unlocked, since one purchase covers you both.
Your partner cannot see your email address or the games you play on your own. Nothing is shared before you link, and you can unlink at any time.
5. Purchases and advertising
Premium is bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and the payment is handled by Apple or Google. We never see your payment card details.
To show the price and to check whether Premium has been bought, the app uses RevenueCat, a company that helps apps handle purchases. When you use the app, RevenueCat receives your account ID and, if you buy Premium, the record of that purchase from Apple or Google. Like any online service, it also sees the IP address your phone connects from. It does not receive your name, your email address, your favorites or your games.
Ads in the free version
The free version shows ads supplied by Google AdMob: a full-screen ad between a finished game and its results, and a banner on the results screen. Premium shows no ads.
We ask Google for non-personalised ads only, and the app does not ask for permission to track you across other apps. To show ads and measure how they do, Google’s ad software in the app collects information from your phone, such as its IP address (which shows roughly where you are), ID numbers for the phone or for this copy of the app, which ads were shown and tapped, when the app is opened, and technical details such as crashes and how fast the app runs. We do not give Google your name, email address, favorites or game choices.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked for your consent before the first ad. You can change your choice at any time in the app under Profile → Ad privacy settings.
6. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the companies we rely on to run the app:
- Microsoft: runs the sign-in service, and the servers where your account, games and favorites are stored (in its data centres in Norway and Sweden).
- Cloudflare: carries the traffic between your phone and our servers and protects them against attacks. To do that, it handles your IP address and the data passing through.
- RevenueCat: checks purchases, as described in section 5.
- Google (AdMob): shows ads in the free version. For this, Google uses the data for its own purposes as well as ours; how is described in Google’s own privacy policy.
- Apple and Google: Sign in with Apple or Google, and payments in the App Store or Google Play. They handle your data under their own privacy policies.
Your account, games and favorites are stored in Norway and Sweden. RevenueCat is based in the United States, and Microsoft, Cloudflare, Apple and Google are international companies that may handle data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, the data is protected in the ways the GDPR requires: by the EU’s standard contracts for sending data abroad (the Standard Contractual Clauses) or by the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
7. How long we keep your data
We keep your data until you delete your account. Deleting your account in the app (Profile → Delete account) removes all of the data listed in section 2 under “What we store on our servers” immediately. It also deletes your sign-in with us from Microsoft’s sign-in service and tells RevenueCat to delete its record of you. Your Apple or Google account itself is not affected.
A few traces remain for a short time and then disappear by themselves:
- For up to three days we keep the account ID of the deleted account, and nothing else. It stops a phone that is still signed in from creating the account again by accident.
- Backup copies of our database are kept for 7 days, and technical records, which can contain your account ID or IP address, for up to 30 days.
Records of your purchase that are held by Apple or Google are not controlled by us and are not affected by deleting your Name Game account. The same goes for what Google has collected to show ads, which is not tied to your Name Game account.
See how to delete your account for the steps, and for what to do if you can no longer use the app.
8. Your rights
Because we are based in Norway, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to how we handle your data. You have the right to:
- See your data (access): ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct it (rectification): ask us to correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete it (erasure): have your data deleted. You can do this yourself in the app, or ask us to do it.
- Take it with you (portability): receive your data as a file in a common format that other services can read.
- Pause our use of it (restriction): ask us to stop using your data while a question about it is being settled.
- Object: object to uses that we base on our legitimate interests.
- Change your mind about ads: withdraw or give your consent at any time in the app under Profile → Ad privacy settings.
- Complain: complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) if you believe we are handling your data unlawfully.
To use any of these rights, email namegame@tornado-k.com from the email address you use to sign in. If you signed in with Apple and chose to hide your email address, say so and we will confirm your account with you another way.
9. Children
Name Game is intended for adults, in particular expecting parents. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top.
